Welsh language digital hub for Cardiff

16 April 2013

Y Dinesydd, the local Welsh language newspaper which has been running since 1973 is to be developed into a community hub for Welsh speakers.

In partnership with Menter Caerdydd and Cardiff University, Y Dinesyddintends to develop a new website which will become an online hub for Welsh speakers in the Capital and those interested in Capital life.

The intention is to develop an online community which will be a source of interactive information relevant to day-to-day life in Cardiff. The website will not replace Y Dinesydd, which is celebrating its 40th year this year in its present form, but will create a new medium to appeal to a new audience and reflect the liveliness of life in the Capital.

Sara Moseley, Development Director at the University's School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies said, "We would like to thank the University's Vice Chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan for his financial support and eagerness to develop a connection with local projects like the digital Y Dinesydd".

The partners will work with volunteers to develop the Welsh language digital service for around 36,000 Welsh speakers who live in Cardiff.
