The local community project 'We Are Cardiff,' best known for its community centred blog, has produced an independent short film about life in the city of Cardiff, with support from Cardiff University.

Cardiff University is a supporting partner of the 'Portrait of a City' project with We Are Cardiff.

We Are Cardiff say: "As you may know, we've been working on making a film for nearly a year and a half now. The day has come for the beast to be unleashed! There's a launch screening party at Chapter Arts Centre on Sunday 7th July at 12:30pm and we'd really, really love to see you there"

Cardiff University is well known for its own diverse student population, and the benefits this brings to the Welsh capital, with university staff and students making up a significant proportion of the community. The University features in the film, having supported shooting on campus, student interviews and exclusive access to university events.

Helia Phoenix, an original founder of the We Are Cardiff project and artistic director of the film explains the partnership. Helia said: "Having been a student at Cardiff University – both undergrad and postgrad – I've got first-hand experience of how important students are to this city, and how the city affects the lives of students who decide to come here to study – and those who never leave. Like me! We are overjoyed to be teaming up with Cardiff University to showcase what a wonderful city Cardiff is. We really believe in it and I hope we can show that off to the world."

Sandra Elliott, Director of International and Marketing at the University said: "We're excited to finally see the finished product after all the hard work that Helia and her team have put in. It's taken over a year to capture just a fraction of events and activity across the City, and we can't wait to see how We Are Cardiff have brought them all together to showcase the alternative view of Cardiff on screen"

The film covers a year in the life of the city and includes events and activities as wide and varying as roller derby, Swn Festival and Cardiff Students' Unions festival of diversity 'Go Global'.

The Premiere of the Film is taking place on Sunday 7th July, at 12:30pm in the Chapter Arts Centre. Tickets are limited and can be purchased from the link below at £6 a ticket. Tea, Coffee and Welsh Cakes will be provided for those attending.
