Exploring social and cultural geography in China

Professor Mark Jayne, School of Geography and Planning recently visited China to undertake guest lectures and to help promote the University’s work on social and cultural geography.

During his trip Mark, Professor of Human Geography presented lectures on his research and introduced opportunities for students and staff to come to study and undertake research in Cardiff.  Mark also presented a research paper at the 7th Conference on Urban Space and Social Life at Sanya University, and also managed to enjoy watching Wales’ footballing victories in the early hours of the morning.

Speaking about his trip, Mark said: “I received a very warm welcome and the intellectual engagement with colleagues and students at Nanjing University, Tianjin University of Technology; Chongqing University; South China Normal University and Sanya University has been vital in helping me advance my burgeoning interest in Chinese cities.

The links made during this trip will make a significant contribution to his forthcoming edited collection entitled Chinese Urbanism: Critical Perspectives, which will be published by Routledge in 2017.

Professor Jayne visited;

  • The School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Nanjing University;
  • The School of Chinese Language and Culture, Tianjin University of Technology;
  • The Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Chongqing University;
  • The School of Geography and the Centre for Social and Cultural Geography, South China Normal University, Guangzhou.
