Our School has been awarded the Athena Swan Silver Award, recognising its ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality and creating an inclusive, supportive environment for staff and students.
The award acknowledges the School's efforts to promote equality, diversity and inclusion across all aspects of its work, including recruitment, career development, leadership and student experience. The Silver Award is valid until 30 September 2031, demonstrating the School's continued commitment to building a culture where everyone can thrive.
The award reflects a range of initiatives introduced across the School, including embedding equality, diversity and inclusion into leadership and decision-making, supporting career development and progression, strengthening support for staff with caring responsibilities, increasing female representation in senior leadership roles, and ensuring staff and students play an active role in shaping EDI priorities. Athena Swan activity is now fully integrated into the School's permanent governance structures, helping to drive meaningful and sustainable change.
We are delighted to receive the Athena Swan Silver Award. This recognition reflects the dedication of colleagues across the School who have worked to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for our staff and students. While we are proud of this achievement, we remain committed to driving further progress and ensuring that equality, diversity and inclusion are embedded in everything we do.
The Athena Swan Charter is a globally recognised framework that supports and transforms gender equality within higher education and research. The Silver Award highlights the School's significant achievements to date while reinforcing its commitment to continuous improvement over the coming years.
Through initiatives that support career progression, mentorship, flexible working and an inclusive student experience, the School of Engineering continues to strengthen opportunities for all members of its community.
