A new report from UCL exploring how universities can work differently to address complex societal challenges has highlighted Cardiff University's sbarc|spark as an example of a dedicated space designed to support collaboration.

The report identifies the growth of dedicated spaces, centres and coalitions as one way universities and their partners are creating environments where people can work together around shared missions. It highlights spaces that bring together government, industry and universities, describing sbarc|spark as an example of this approach.

It also draws attention to the importance of physical environments in enabling interdisciplinary teams and community partners to work together, citing sbarc|spark as an example of this kind of spatial innovation.

This recognition reflects themes that SPARK has been exploring through its own work around collaborative social science, research and action. Read our pieces on progress and obstacles to a wiser society and social science/SPARK as activation partner..

Together, these pieces explore how universities can move beyond traditional approaches to research and create the conditions for collaboration, learning and action around complex societal challenges.
