School reaches Top 5 in the UK for journalism, communication and media studies

Cardiff University’s School of Journalism, Media and Culture has been ranked in the Top 5 in the UK for communication and media studies in The Times Good University Guide 2027 and in the Top 5 in the UK for journalism in The Guardian University Guide 2027.

These rankings are the latest in what has been a successful year for the School. Earlier this year, the School ranked 37th in the world for communication and media studies in the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject and in the Complete University Guide 2027, the School placed in the Top 5 in the UK for communication and media studies. More recently, the School has ranked in the Top 20 for Media and Film Studies in the Guardian University Guide 2027.

Head of the School of Journalism, Media and Culture, Dr Matt Walsh, said: “This has been a fantastic year for the School and I’m immensely proud of all that we have achieved. It’s great to see our rankings have improved in several of the league tables this year, and as we enter a new academic year and look forward to welcoming our new and returning students, these rankings act as a reminder to our students that they receive a world-class education with us, filled with opportunities which help prepare them for their future career.”
