NLP Summer Workshop 2026 brings international AI and NLP community to Cardiff

Researchers, practitioners and students from across the world gathered at Cardiff University in June for the 5th Cardiff NLP Summer Workshop, a two-day event that showcased the latest advances in Natural Language Processing (NLP), large language models and artificial intelligence.
Held in Abacws on 22 and 23 June 2026, the workshop was organised by the Cardiff NLP Group and brought together participants from academia and industry for a programme of invited talks, tutorials, networking opportunities, panel discussions and research presentations.
The programme featured internationally recognised speakers from leading universities and industry research organisations, and included topics such as user-adaptive large language models, multilingual language technologies, healthcare applications, reasoning and generalisation in AI systems, compositional approaches to language modelling, evaluation of expert AI systems, and understanding knowledge representations in generative models.
"The Cardiff NLP Workshop has grown into an international meeting point for the NLP research community. Each year, we welcome participants from an increasing number of countries, including countries such as Korea, Germany, Ireland, Egypt, Italy, and many others."

Speakers included Yulan He (King's College London), Harish Tayyar Madabushi (University of Bath), Negar Foroutan (Google Research), Iacer Calixto (University of Amsterdam), Martha Lewis (University of Amsterdam), Simone Balloccu (TU Darmstadt) and Abhilasha Ravichander (Max Planck Institute).
Alongside the keynote talks, attendees participated in a poster session showcasing emerging research, a tutorial on Metaphors in NLP delivered by Joanne Boisson and Jose Camacho-Collados, and a panel discussion moderated by Steven Schockaert.
