School of Healthcare Sciences secures national NHS training contract

The School of Healthcare Sciences has been awarded a three-year contract to deliver the NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) Simulation National Training Programme from its facilities at Heath Park West.
The programme supports education and training in organ and tissue donation and transplantation through realistic, simulated learning experiences. Delivered by subject matter experts and educators, the training helps promote consistency, safety and best practice across donation, retrieval and transplantation services throughout the UK. The initiative brings together professionals from multiple disciplines to strengthen collaborative working across organ and tissue pathways.
The award reflects the strong partnership between Cardiff University and NHS organisations, as well as the role of the University's simulation facilities in supporting education, training and professional development across healthcare services.
As we continue to develop opportunities for external organisations to make use of our simulation facilities, securing this contract was particularly significant because of its direct connection to the future healthcare workforce. Hosting national NHS training programmes at Heath Park West further enriches the learning environment for our students and highlights the important role Healthcare Sciences plays in professional education and development.
The successful bid was supported by Joanne Owen, Senior Clinical Skills and Simulation Officer, who provided expertise on the facilities and services available at Heath Park West, and Huw Williams from the School of Medicine, who contributed to the development of the contract proposal.
The skills and knowledge gained through the programme will be transferred directly into clinical practice, helping to strengthen organ donation and transplantation services and enhance patient care across the NHS.
