Cardiff Confucius Institute (CCI) was delighted to be a partner in the vibrant Chinese Cultural Heritage Day held at St Fagans National Museum of History on Saturday 13 June, alongside the Chinese in Wales Association.

The free community event welcomed more than 4,500 visitors of all ages, offering a colourful celebration of Chinese culture and traditions. Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed an exciting programme of stage performances, cultural presentations, traditional arts and crafts workshops, Chinese marketplace and food stalls, and opportunities to dress in traditional Chinese clothing for memorable photographs.

Craft workshops

CCI played an active role in the event by delivering three popular paper craft workshops. Visitors had the chance to create their own zongzi (traditional rice dumpling) decorations, dragon boats, and a variety of beautiful Chinese-inspired paper art designs. The workshops proved especially popular with families, providing a fun and creative way to learn about the cultural significance of the Dragon Boat Festival and Chinese artistic traditions.

Stage performances

The main stage also featured outstanding performances from CCI tutors. Zi Ye captivated audiences with a solo guzheng performance of Lanting Xu, showcasing the beauty and expressive power of one of China's most treasured traditional instruments. Later, Kezhi Pu mesmerised the crowd with Peonies of Luoyang, an elegant dance inspired by the famous flowers and rich cultural heritage of the ancient city of Luoyang.

Confucius Classrooms

As part of the event, CCI also showcased its ongoing work with schools across Wales. A display of pupils' artwork highlighted the wide range of Mandarin language and cultural activities delivered through CCI's school partnerships, giving visitors an insight into how young people are engaging with Chinese language and culture in Welsh classrooms.

Cultural Exchange

Reflecting on the success of the event, Professor Langlang Wang, Academic Director of Cardiff Confucius Institute, said:

“Events such as Chinese Cultural Heritage Day demonstrate the value of working closely with partner organisations to bring communities together through culture. We are proud to collaborate with the Chinese in Wales Association and St Fagans National Museum of History to share Chinese traditions with people of all ages and backgrounds. By engaging with local communities in Wales, we can build greater cultural understanding, foster meaningful connections, and inspire curiosity about China's rich heritage.”

The event highlighted the growing interest in Chinese culture across Wales and provided a welcoming space for cultural exchange, learning and celebration. Cardiff Confucius Institute extends its thanks to all visitors, performers, volunteers and partners who contributed to making Chinese Cultural Heritage Day such a memorable success.
