Cardiff Business School hosts national Young Enterprise UK Company of the Year

23 June 2026

Pupils aged 13–19 from across all corners of the UK and Gibraltar gathered for a day that showcased their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit; skills at the heart of the Young Enterprise programme.

The Postgraduate Teaching Centre was bustling with activity throughout the day, as students set up 20 trade stands, participated in interactive workshops and took part in an Apprentice-style challenge led by meal prep entrepreneur Mia Collins, a recent contestant from the television series.

Recognising Talent and Public Value

A Cardiff University judging panel met with each team to assess their ideas and presentations, awarding prizes for Best Trade Stand, Best Customer Service and the Cardiff University Special Recognition Award for Public Value.

The Public Value Award, which celebrates businesses making a positive impact on their communities, was presented to Juto, a team from Heathermount Academy.

Judges Lisa Hicks, (Snoap), and Louise Smith (Wales Perfumery), alongside Cardiff Business School academics Mr Akmal Hanuk, Professor Rachel Ashworth, Dr Zoe Lee and Professor Maneesh Kumar, praised the high standard of entries.

The panel noted, “It was inspiring to see how confidently and passionately these young entrepreneurs presented their ideas, products and purpose‑driven ventures.”

Workshops, Collaboration and Celebration

Facilitated sessions led by Dan Newman and Gafyn Stiff provided students with valuable insights and skill-building opportunities.

The event concluded with a vibrant awards ceremony recognising achievements in innovation, technology, sustainability and creativity, alongside the announcement of the Young Enterprise UK Company of the Year 2026 who will go on to represent the UK in JA Europe’s Gen-E 2026 in Riga, Latvia.

Supporting Future Leaders

The event was made possible through the support of sponsor Delta Air Lines, alongside colleagues, volunteers and partner organisations. Special thanks were given to the Young Enterprise team, the Welsh Government Brand team, Media Cymru, the Widening Participation team, the Media Squad led by Simon Bartlett, and Cardiff Business School’s recruitment team for their contributions.

Cardiff Business School highlighted its pride in hosting a national event that champions young talent and supports the next generation of business leaders.

“Their ambition and creativity left a lasting impression on everyone who attended,” organisers reflected.

Continuing the Partnership

The School reaffirmed its commitment to working with Young Enterprise and supporting opportunities that help young people develop the skills and mindsets needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Cardiff Business School also encourages organisations and individuals to explore its Executive Education programmes and future collaborations as part of its wider mission to support learning, connection and innovation.
