Cardiff Business School advances Public Value research at ASSA 2026 Annual Meeting
20 February 2026
In January 2026, Dr. Tommaso Reggiani, a Reader of Economics, represented Cardiff Business School at the Allied Social Science Associations (ASSA) Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, following his invitation to serve as an invited panel discussant.
Organised by the American Economic Association, ASSA is the world’s largest and most influential gathering in economics and the social sciences, bringing together leading academics, policymakers, and practitioners from across the globe.
Dr. Reggiani contributed to a high-profile thematic session on Political and Organizational Influences on Nonprofit Activity. This topic directly aligned with Cardiff Business School’s commitment to generating research that informs policy, strengthens institutions and delivers public value. The session explored how political contexts, governance structures, and organisational incentives shape the effectiveness of nonprofit organisations. Issues that are central to contemporary debates on social welfare, civic engagement, and ethical decision-making.
Invited discussant roles at ASSA are highly selective and reflect international recognition of scholarly expertise and relevance. Dr. Reggiani’s invitation highlights the established visibility and impact of Cardiff Business School's research interests in behavioural and public economics, particularly its contribution to understanding how non-governmental organisations can better serve communities and society.
This engagement exemplifies Cardiff University’s global-civic mission; advancing knowledge that addresses real-world challenges through international debate and policy-relevant scholarship. By contributing to global academic and policy forums at the highest level, Cardiff Business School continues to strengthen its role as a globally connected, socially engaged institution committed to co-creating economic and social value for current and future generations.
