Professor Bahman Rostami-Tabar appointed Reproducibility Editor for the International Journal of Forecasting

5 February 2026

Professor Bahman Rostami-Tabar, Director of the Data Lab for Social Good Research Group at Cardiff Business School, has been appointed as a Reproducibility Editor for the International Journal of Forecasting, the leading international journal in the field. This newly created editorial role reflects a major step forward in promoting transparency and scientific integrity in forecasting research.

The International Journal of Forecasting recently introduced a pioneering reproducibility policy which requires every accepted paper to undergo a detailed reproducibility assessment before publication. This process is run in collaboration with CASCaD, the first certification agency for scientific code and data, and ensures that the results reported in each study can be independently verified using the same data and methods. Each year, the journal team reproduces over 100 research papers to confirm the robustness and credibility of their findings.

As Reproducibility Editor, Professor Rostami-Tabar will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and three Associate Editors to oversee this process, helping to ensure that published studies meet the highest standards of computational transparency and scientific rigour.

Explaining the importance of reproducibility, Professor Rostami-Tabar said:

Reproducibility means that research results can be reproduced using the same data, code, and methods. It’s a cornerstone of credible science, yet many studies in computational fields have struggled to meet this standard. I’m delighted to take on this new role, which supports openness, quality, and trust in research.

Professor Bahman Rostami-Tabar Professor of Analytics and Decision Sciences

The International Journal of Forecasting is the official publication of the International Institute of Forecasters (IIF) and is widely regarded as the flagship journal in the discipline. This appointment highlights Professor Rostami-Tabar’s ongoing commitment to advancing transparency, reproducibility, and methodological excellence in advanced analytics and decision science.

In addition to this new editorial role, Professor Rostami-Tabar has recently designed a new course on reproducibility in computational research. This will be offered from Spring 2026 as part of the Doctoral Academy programme. The course aims to equip PhD students with the practical skills and mindset needed to produce transparent, verifiable, and trustworthy research outputs.

Our research, conducted by an international faculty of scholars working at the forefront of their subject areas, benefits a wide range of stakeholders.
