Cardiff research associate named as one of Europe’s top Early Career Women in field of Operations Research

30 January 2026

Dr Elizabeth Williams is one of 12 women from across Europe to be recognised with the YoungWomen4OR award.

The YoungWomen4OR award, given by EURO WISDOM (part of the European Association of Operational Research Societies, EURO), recognises and promotes early-career women researchers in Operational Research (OR) across Europe.

Each year, 12 women from academia or industry are selected for their outstanding research contributions, and the award provides visibility, networking, and mentoring opportunities within the European OR community.

The initiative brings together an inspiring cohort of early-career women, supporting their professional growth, community engagement, and recognition in OR.

"I’m truly honoured to be selected as one of the YoungWomen4OR for 2026! I feel so lucky to work in a field that not only inspires me but also allows me to make a difference every day.  A huge thank you to everyone who has supported, mentored, and challenged me along the way! I’m excited for the year ahead and for the chance to continue learning, growing, and amplifying the impact of operational research."
Dr Elizabeth Williams Honorary Lecturer

Dr Williams works part-time as a Research Associate and part-time as a Principal Analyst in the NHS. She contributes to academic research while also applying those insights directly within the healthcare system to support data-driven decision-making.

Dr Williams’ current focus is on using operational research techniques, such as optimisation, simulation and data analytics to improve healthcare systems.

This includes projects related to resource allocation, patient flow management and service planning, all with the aim of enhancing efficiency and patient care.
