Cardiff hosts event with Airbus to inspire next generation of engineers and cyber security practitioners

26 January 2026

The event was funded as part of Cardiff Business School's Public Value Fellowship in partnership with the Computer Science Outreach Team

Cardiff Business School and the Computer Science Outreach Team welcomed students from three local secondary schools to Abacws for a day of hands-on activities.

The aim of the day was to broaden access to engineering and cyber security careers for students from Ysgol Abersychan, Monmouth Comprehensive and Heolddu Comprehensive.

Year 8 and 9 students took part in practical challenges led by Airbus engineers and Computer Science students.

"It's been really interesting, playing and programming games. I feel like I've learnt a lot today."

Rachel Williams, Reader at Cardiff Business School, said: "This outreach event forms part of a Cardiff Business School Public Value Fellowship, which focuses on widening access to highlighting different roles, particularly in the engineering sector.

"The event is delivered in partnership with the University’s School of Computer Science Outreach Team and is designed to raise awareness of engineering and cyber security career pathways, both within Airbus and across the wider sector.

"The initiative highlights diverse career pathways within Airbus and the wider sector, with a strong focus on apprenticeships, internships, and showcasing female role models to promote inclusivity."

"We had a really good time and it was really interesting. I learnt different skills than in school."
