Cardiff hosts BCS HCI Conference 2025

This the first time the British Computer Society’s Special Interest Group in Human-Computer Interaction Conference has been held in Wales.

The conference was held in Abacws and the Queen’s Buildings between 9-11 November. Dr Daniel Finnegan and Dr Nervo Verdezoto Dias acted as General Chairs, and Dr Fernando Loizides was a Technical Programme Chair.

The theme of this year’s conference was HCI4AI – Human Centred Approaches and their Impact on AI system design, application, and evaluation.

Dr Daniel Finnegan said: “Looking back on this extraordinary week, I’m absolutely thrilled with the success of the BCS HCI 2025 here in Cardiff. The level of engagement, the quality of the research presented, and the sheer number of attendees far exceeded our initial expectations."

Two Best Paper Awards were given to Ahmad Alaqsam and Corina Sas for Expert Nutritionists’ Perception of XAI Visualisations for Overweight Prediction and Sijin Sun, Jiyuan Cao, Zheyuan Zhang and Rafael A. Calvo for Culturally Adapted Design of a Digital Mental Health Intervention to the Chinese context: A design case study.

The conference was rounded off with the event being handed over to Brunel university's Dr Monica Pereira and Prof Mark Perry who will be running BCS HCI 2026.
