Annual Pro Bono awards celebrate Cardiff schemes in double shortlisting
1 December 2025
The Pro Bono activities of the School of Law and Politics have been recognised in this year’s shortlist for the prestigious LawWorks Annual Pro Bono Awards.
The School’s Pro Bono Unit has been shortlisted in the Best Pro Bono Contribution in Wales category and the Cardiff University Law Clinic & Support Through Court Partnership has been shortlisted in the Most Effective Pro Bono Partnership.
For their nomination in the Best Pro Bono Contribution in Wales category, the Pro Bono Unit highlighted their extensive and unique pro bono portfolio which is made up of three “in-house” and twelve partnership schemes. The schemes cover national (Wales and UK) and local community needs in both social justice and commercial advice arenas. Typically, 200-300 students participate in extra-curricular pro bono activities annually, with involvement from academic colleagues, charities, external partners, and supported by practising lawyers.
One of the schemes which has been incredibly successful since its inception in November 2024 is the Cardiff University Law Clinic & Support Through Court Partnership which has been recognised in the Most Effective Pro Bono Partnership category. The Law Clinic is based at Cardiff’s Civil and Family Justice Centre, and offers free advice for members of the public who need help on housing and family law cases. Advice is given following a face-to-face appointment with law students who are supervised by Krista Robinson, a solicitor with over 20 years’ experience working in housing law and practice. Some clients contact the clinic directly, while others are referred by legal support charity Support Through Court who provide emotional and practical support for people facing court alone.
Head of Pro Bono and Clinical Legal Education, Professor Julie Price said, “I am delighted that we have been shortlisted in not one, but two, different categories. This is testament to the hard work of our students and pro bono supporters, some of whom are our pro bono alumni”
The LawWorks Annual Pro Bono Awards will be held at the Law Society, Chancery Lane, London on Wednesday 3 December 2025.
