Cardiff Business School strengthens global ties with NYU Stern visit

Cardiff Business School was proud to welcome students and academic staff from the prestigious New York University Stern School of Business for a day of academic exchange and cultural immersion, reinforcing our commitment to international collaboration and global engagement.
Hosted at the Postgraduate Teaching Centre on October 10, the visit brought together 35 guests from NYU Stern, a research-based university in New York City, for a full programme of academic sessions led by Cardiff Business School faculty.
The sessions explored pressing global themes encompassing:
- Global economic challenges
- Money and security
- Productivity
- Political economy, institutions, and growth
Speakers and talks included:
- Professor Huw Dixon – GDP and Adding Up
- Professor Joshy Easaw – Contemporary Political Economy, Institutions and Growth
- Professor Max Munday – Wales: Understanding the Productivity Problem
- Dr Thea Don-Siemion - Money and Security in Interwar Europe
- Professor Patrick Minford – Current World Economic Issues
The visitors received a welcome address from Professor Sarah Lethbridge and Professor Melanie Jones; talks were chaired by Professor Indrajit Ray and closing remarks were given by Dr Luisanna Onnis.
The Economics Section here at Cardiff Business School were delighted to host students from New York University Stern School of Business and showcase the diversity of our expertise in sessions covering both local and global economic issues, and from historical and contemporary perspectives. It was great to see such interest in the Welsh Economy.
The visit concluded with a memorable evening of Welsh hospitality, local cuisine and lively conversation at Cardiff Castle, featuring a guided tour and a three-course dinner in the historic Banqueting Hall, organised by the Executive Education
Professor David Meenagh welcomed guests to the evening event, which provided a unique opportunity for networking and cultural exchange in one of Wales’ leading heritage attractions and a site of international significance.
I wanted to sincerely thank you for welcoming NYU Stern Business and Political Economy students to Cardiff University and for organising such a splendid gala dinner at Cardiff Castle that evening. The Great Hall is a majestic and beautiful venue. It was an unforgettable occasion for our students!

It laid the groundwork for future collaboration between Cardiff and NYU Stern, enhancing opportunities for joint research, student mobility, and academic exchange. It also promoted diversity, and the positive impact different backgrounds, experiences, views, beliefs and cultures can have on our community, working environment and reputation.
