Senior academic elected as President of ICA
12 November 2025
Professor Karin Wahl-Jorgensen has been elected as the President of the International Communication Association (ICA).
The ICA is the major professional association for communication researchers around the world. Since it was founded 50 years ago, the association now has more than 5,000 members in over 80 countries.
As part of her new role, Professor Wahl-Jorgensen will provide academic leadership for the ICA. This will include providing strategic direction, leading the Executive Board, and planning the association’s annual conference in 2027, which will be held in Glasgow.
Discussing her new role, Professor Wahl-Jorgensen said: “I am absolutely thrilled about being elected to this role. ICA has been my academic home for 30 years, ever since I was a PhD student.
“For the past 5 years, I’ve served as University Dean of Research Environment and Culture here at Cardiff University and have really enjoyed working with brilliant colleagues from across the institution. My experience in that role has given me a strong appreciation of the importance of building community and bolstering collaboration.
“For me, the ICA presidency offers a brilliant opportunity to support colleagues in my discipline, while enhancing the visibility of Cardiff University around the world.”
Head of the School of Journalism, Media and Culture, Dr Matt Walsh, said: “Karin's election as President of the ICA is a tribute to her immense contributions as a world-leading scholar.
“Not only is she one of the foremost thinkers and researchers in the field of journalism studies, but she is also a fine colleague who is committed to developing the careers of more junior researchers. We in the School of Journalism, Media and Culture are immensely proud of her and we know she will have a big impact during her tenure.”
Congratulations to Professor Wahl-Jorgensen on her new role!
