Autumn concert series showcases range of musical styles and genres
30 October 2025
A new season of concerts celebrates music’s ability to entertain, inspire and connect – bringing professional and student-led ensembles together for an exciting and varied autumn programme.
The season kicked off with Professor Ken Hamilton’s Rare Romantic Masterpieces for Piano at the School of Music’s Concert Hall on 14 October. Professor Hamilton performed a series of works by Stevenson, Reubke and Liszt.
Up next is Limen on 11 November where the boundaries of Welsh music dissolve. Angharad Davies, Gwen Sion, Ashley John Long, Lyndon Owen, Rob Fokkens, and Rich McReynolds will transform the Concert Hall into a shifting landscape of sound, light, and image.
This will be followed (18 November) by Juilliard-trained Taiwanese American classical pianist, Hsiang Tu. Celebrating 150 Years of Maurice Ravel (1875-1937), the works performed will include Sérénade grotesque, Jeux d’eau and Pavane pour une infante défunte.
Before the student ensembles take centre stage, the Concert Hall will host Crosscurrent on 25 November. This event, co-hosted with the Cardiff Confucius Institute, will celebrate traditional and contemporary Chinese chamber music.
From 2 to 12 December, ensembles made up of students studying music and those from other disciplines will share their talent and passion for performance.

Dr Rob Fokkens, Director of Performance at the School of Music explained the ambition behind this season.
“This season is a celebration of musical excellence, shared passion and a belief in the power - and value - of music."
“Our programme is a showcase for the world-leading musical research our academics produce and for the excellent musical performances of our talented students. By combining the performances of world-class musicians and our professionally directed school ensembles, choirs and orchestra, we’re offering a programme exploring a diverse range of musical genres, eras and styles.
“Music is one of humanity’s most powerful ways of exploring, expressing and sharing our sense of culture, place and identity. Join us this season to enjoy and celebrate music, and its role in our lives.”
All concerts through to December (except the Symphony Orchestra which will be at the BBC Hoddinott Hall, Wales Millennium Centre) will take place in Cardiff University’s Concert Hall. General Admission tickets are £10 or FREE for Cardiff University staff and students.
