Cardiff Business School hosts Shanxi University of Finance and Economics to explore green transition and exchange opportunities

27 October 2025

On October 3, Cardiff Business School welcomed a delegation from Shanxi University of Finance and Economics (SXUFE) for a discussion on education, research, and partnership opportunities linked to regional regeneration and the net-zero transition.

Wales and Shanxi share a distinctive industrial heritage shaped by coal mining and its contribution to national development. Both regions now face the urgent challenges of environmental sustainability and economic restructuring. Against this backdrop, the visit centred on how universities can support fair and resilient economic transformation.

Cardiff Business School Dean Tim Edwards introduced Cardiff Business School’s Public Value strategy, highlighting the School’s commitment to research, teaching, and engagement that deliver social, environmental, and economic benefit.

Professor Peng Zhou, Professor Eleri Rosier, and Professor Joshy Easaw outlined Cardiff University’s and the School’s international strategies. Section Heads, Professor Melanie Jones and Professor Qingwei Wang, led discussions on potential student and staff exchanges, curriculum links, and joint activities that would connect expertise across labour markets, sustainability, and financial technologies.

The conversations also considered opportunities for collaborative research, knowledge exchange with industry and government, and initiatives supporting fair transition and community regeneration.

The School is a world-leading, research intensive business and management school with a proven track record of excellence, and it is committed to delivering economic and social improvement.
