Cardiff University Delivers Generative AI Training to Pembrokeshire Businesses

Cardiff University’s Digital Transformation University Innovation Institute (DTUII) delivered a dynamic one-day workshop on Generative AI to a full room of Pembrokeshire-based businesses on 15 July 2025.
Held at the Bridge Innovation Centre in Pembroke Dock, the session was designed to demystify AI and equip local SMEs with practical tools to enhance productivity, creativity, and innovation.
Commissioned by Pembrokeshire County Council and funded through the Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF), the free workshop to the businesses, attracted a diverse group of delegates from sectors including tourism, energy, digital marketing, e-commerce, and civil engineering.
The programme, led by Cardiff University experts Dr Mehreen Ashraf, Mouhamad Aboshokor, and Arif Mehmood, offered a hands-on introduction to tools like GPT-3 and DALL·E, explored real-world business applications, and addressed ethical considerations and best practices for responsible AI use.
We’re committed to helping local businesses stay competitive and resilient. This workshop gave participants a valuable opportunity to explore how AI can be used in practical, accessible ways. The energy in the room was fantastic, and it’s clear there’s a real appetite for more learning in this space.
The course was tailored to the needs of local SMEs, with delegates ranging from early adopters of AI to those just beginning their journey. Topics included AI for marketing, content creation, customer service, and automation, with guided sessions allowing participants to experiment with AI tools in real time.
We designed this course to be both informative and empowering. It’s not just about understanding what AI is—it’s about giving people the confidence to use it meaningfully in their businesses. We’re proud to support Pembrokeshire’s innovation journey and look forward to building on this momentum.
