Cardiff Business School hosts students from Dalian University of Technology

11 September 2025

Cardiff Business School welcomed visiting students from Dalian University of Technology.

During the week commencing August 25, Cardiff Business School welcomed visiting students from Dalian University of Technology (DUT), one of Cardiff University’s key strategic partners in China.

Cardiff University and DUT formalised a Priority Partnership in 2022, building on an earlier Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2018. The partnership supports joint academic programmes and student and staff exchanges, with initial focal areas that include chemistry and chemical engineering, engineering (built environment, coastal and electronic), data science and systems, artificial intelligence, intelligent logistics, financial mathematics, and brain sciences.

The students took part in a two-day lecture series hosted by Professor Peng Zhou, University Dean of International for China, which explored economics, economic policy, and investment strategies relating to the United Kingdom and China.

It was a pleasure to welcome DUT students to Cardiff Business School. This programme not only provided them with academic insights into UK–China economic relations but also highlighted the opportunities for deeper collaboration between our two institutions.

The event was delivered with the support of Cardiff Business School colleagues who shared their expertise across a range of subject areas.

The programme included:

  • Professor Kent Matthews: Applying the economic logic to explaining birth, crime and marriage.
  • Dr Thea Don-Siemion: A narrative history of monetary policy in Europe.
  • Professor Huw Dixon: AI, electronic vehicles and the rise of China.
  • Professor Peng Zhou: Investing in the global financial market.
  • Professor Eleri Rosier: Postgraduate programmes in Cardiff Business School.

One of the visiting students commented:

“The lectures gave us a clearer understanding of how economics and policy are applied in both China and the UK. It was an inspiring experience and made us feel part of an international academic community.”

The visit further strengthens Cardiff University’s partnership with DUT and reflects the University’s continued commitment to international engagement through research, teaching, and student exchange.
