Cardiff families enjoyed a summer of creativity and culture thanks to a series of free workshops delivered by the Cardiff Confucius Institute across four libraries in the city.

Children and parents took part in traditional Chinese paper cutting, painting, and a fun table tennis training game, led by expert tutors from the Confucius Institute. The sessions, held in libraries including Llanishen Hub, Penylan Hub, Rhiwbina Hun and Rhydypennau Hub, offered families the chance to explore Chinese arts and culture while enjoying hands-on activities together.

Ella Edwards, Senior Hub Officer at Rhydypennau Hub, said:

“It was wonderful to see so many families getting involved and enjoying these creative sessions. The activities were engaging, fun, and educational, and it was a great way to bring people together through culture and art.”

Professor Guoxiang Xia, Academic Director of the Cardiff Confucius Institute, added:

“We are delighted to partner with Cardiff libraries to share aspects of Chinese culture with local communities. These activities not only introduce families to traditional Chinese art and sports, but also help build cultural connections and mutual understanding.”

The events were part of the Confucius Institute’s ongoing programme to support cultural exchange in Cardiff, helping families discover new traditions while making lasting memories together. The next big event will be held on Sunday 28 September at the National Museum Cardiff to celebrate the Mid Autumn Festival.
