Applied Software Engineering student to represent Team UK at Europe’s biggest skills competition
19 August 2025
Finn, a second year Applied Software Engineering student at Cardiff University, will compete in the Web Technologies category at the EuroSkills competition in September.
Finn was selected to represent Team UK at the competition after showcasing his skills in web development, winning Bronze at the WorldSkills UK National Finals.
The competition, which 100,000 visitors are expected to attend, will be held in Herning in Denmark. Finn will be competing in the Web Technologies category, which focuses largely on back-end web development.
“I’d love to work for a major tech company one day—maybe Apple or Google. That’s the dream,” said Finn.
He added: “I’m currently working with Lipid Maps, which is a company that uses the same tools as the competition, so it’s been really useful hands-on experience.”
Finn is currently completing a summer internship at the School of Modern Languages, where he is helping to develop an interactive language tool.
EuroSkills Herning 2025 will be Finn’s first time travelling abroad, and he’s particularly looking forward to the opportunity.
“I’ve never been abroad before, so going to Denmark is really exciting. I’m looking forward to exploring the country, learning about the culture, and meeting other competitors from across Europe.”
He highly recommends WorldSkills UK to anyone studying web technologies or a similar subject. “It really helps you stand out,” Finn says. “You build technical skills, gain experience outside of uni, and it makes a real difference to your CV. I’d say to anyone—just go for it.”
