20 June 2025

The University Cloud AI Challenge 2025 was organised by Cloud Ready and supported by Microsoft

The competition focused on developing AI skills aligned to industry job roles, enhancing employability, and promoting friendly rivalry among students from various institutions.

Cardiff University scored a total of 27,352 points in the competition, finishing 6th out of 130 participating institutions.

Cardiff had 242 registrations in total and passed 32 exams, with a pass rate of 100%. By passing the exam, all participants from Cardiff earnt a Microsoft professional certification in AI - the Azure AI Fundamentals certification.

Dr James Osbourne, Director of Information Technology and Infrastructure, said: "We have participated in various cloud challenges over the past couple of years where students have had the opportunity to take the AZ-900 certification, and now the AI-900 certification, with Microsoft.  Such certifications are sought after in industry giving our graduates a technical advantage over their counterparts from other universities.

"I would urge all Cardiff University students to look out for next year's university challenge as AI is now so important across a range of subjects."
