Master’s programme shortlisted for award

Cardiff Business School’s MSc in Finance with Financial Technology has been selected as a finalist at the 2025 FinTech Awards Wales.

The master’s programme has been shortlisted for an award in the Best Academic Programme of the Year Supporting FinTech / FS Companies category.

The announcement has been welcomed by Cardiff Business School who launched the programme earlier this year. Since launching, the course has been well-received and has obtained high satisfaction scores from students.

Professor Qingwei Wang is Head of Accounting and Finance at Cardiff Business School. Speaking of the nomination, Professor Wang said: “We are incredibly honoured and excited that our MSc in Finance with Financial Technology programme has been named a finalist for Best Academic Programme Supporting FinTech / FS Companies at the FinTech Awards Wales 2025. This recognition reflects our dedicated teaching teams, excellent student satisfaction, and our commitment to nurturing future FinTech talent in Wales and globally.”

The Finance with Financial Technology master’s course allows students to specialise in Financial Technology alongside pursuing an MSc in Finance. During the one-year programme, students study topics such as investment management, corporate finance, big data and AI application in finance and also develop their research skills and programming proficiency for data analysis and machine learning.

Guna Naga Sai Vesangi is a current student on the course. She said: “The MSc Finance with Financial Technology programme offers an exciting mix of theory and real-world application. I particularly enjoyed Quantitative Methods in Finance; learning regression sparked my interest in data-driven analysis. In addition, Python in Big Data Analytics, trading simulations in the Finance Lab, and managing portfolio returns in Investment Management made the experience incredibly hands-on and rewarding.”

The winners of the award will be announced on 5 September 2025 during a ceremony at the Tramshed in Cardiff.
