New ‘Cyber Women @Cardiff’ group launched to encourage inclusivity in cyber security

30 April 2025

Cyber Women @Cardiff is a recognised student-led chapter of Cyber Women Groups C.I.C., aiming to create a more inclusive and empowering space for women and marginalised genders in cybersecurity and technology.

The group has stated that it aims to challenge the status quo, build community, and open up real opportunities for women and marginalised genders, while making sure that people feel seen and supported.

The aim is to provide opportunities through workshops, mentorship, and speaker panels.

The launch of Cyber Women @Cardiff took place in Cardiff University’s sbarc|spark building, with guests in attendance including Dr Kathryn Jones (Head of School, Computer Science & Informatics), Dr Yulia Cherdantseva (Director of Cardiff University’s Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education), and Dr Clare Johnson (Founder of Women in Cyber).

The group was set up by Jana Jhaveri (President), Eleanor (Vice President), and Lucy (Secretary), and later recruited Elena Corbally (Social Media Coordinator) and Kristina Israelyan (Events Coordinator).

Speaking after the launch, Jana Jhaveri said: “For me, CyberWomen @Cardiff is about carving out space where we can grow - not just in terms of skills and knowledge, but also confidence, community, and representation.

“We’re building something we wish we had when we were starting out.”
