New Learned Society of Wales Fellows to help solve the challenges the world faces

15 Cardiff University academics have joined the elite ranks of the of the Learned Society of Wales.
The Learned Society of Wales, the national academy for arts and sciences, has elected 56 new Fellows, all of whom represent the best of Wales’ academic, cultural and civic life.
15 of our staff members have been elected this year in recognition of their expertise and experience across research, educational practice, and leadership.

Professor Caroline Lear, Dean of Research and Innovation at the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering, and member of the Management Team at Cardiff University’s Net Zero Innovation Institute, said of her appointment: “I am delighted to be elected to the Learned Society of Wales, and look forward to contributing to their work using research and innovation to solve the challenges faced in Wales and across the world."
I am particularly heartened by the Society’s commitment to inclusivity, which will enable it to achieve so much more.
Professor Hywel Thomas, President of the Learned Society of Wales, said: “We face a huge number of challenges, from climate change to political turmoil to emerging health threats. The answer to so many of these problems will be found in research and robust civic institutions. That expertise is evident in our new Fellows. I’m delighted to welcome them to the Learned Society of Wales.”
