Cardiff University celebrates Welsh culture at Urdd Eisteddfod

23 May 2025

Eisteddfod

Young people visiting the Urdd Eisteddfod are learning about the range of experiences on offer as a student at Cardiff University.

A full programme of events, activities, and performances kick off at this year’s festival at Margam Park, Port Talbot, from 26-31 May.

The University’s School of Engineering will be showcasing their own racing car and you can dive into the exciting world of coding with LEGO robots alongside our enthusiastic Computer Science team.

Visitors can have their vision checked by members of the School of Optometry and tackle tooth cavities with the School of Dentistry.

They can explore the wonders of the universe with the School of Physics and Astronomy and solve puzzles with the School of Mathematics.

A student panel will discuss the Cynnig Caerdydd/Cardiff Offer – the provision, opportunities and experiences available at the University through the medium of Welsh.

Cardiff Students’ Union will also be available to talk about the support and opportunities they offer to more than 30,000 students at Cardiff University.

Cardiff University is sponsoring the 2025 Eisteddfod yr Urdd crown, which will be awarded in a special ceremony on the Maes on Friday afternoon.

Dean for the Welsh Language Dr Angharad Naylor said: “This year’s Urdd Eisteddfod promises to be an exciting one – showcasing the incredible research and learning opportunities on offer at Cardiff University. We are looking forward to meeting young people and other organisations  during the week as well as being part of a celebration of the very best of Welsh culture.”
