A member of staff and a student at the School of Geography and Planning have been shortlisted for the Enriching Student Life Awards.
The Enriching Student Life Awards (ESLAs) recognise the hard work of staff and students who make a positive contribution to the student experience. The awards are run in partnership between Cardiff University and the Students’ Union.
Professor Antonio Ioris has been shortlisted in the Most Outstanding Learning Experience category, and student Jason Sze has been shortlisted in the President’s Award and Champion for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion categories.
Staff and students submitted over 1,950 nominations for this year’s awards.
Professor Ioris said: “Learning is the most important form of liberation and social recognition. It is a fantastic experience that can only really happen through a serious and creative engagement of students and educators learning and thinking together.
“The nomination for this prize is something very special for me and demonstrates the generosity of my students and their commitment to critical, transformative academic work. I am very proud of them, who are already making a distinctive difference in the world.
Jason Sze said: "This year's efforts to promote diversity and inclusivity within our university community, gaining recognition from Cardiff University and Cardiff Students' Union, feel truly rewarding.
“From hosting the first Welcome Week event specifically for international students to providing more quiet rooms within the school during Ramadan, these meaningful changes wouldn’t have been possible without the support from staff. Their willingness to embrace new ideas, collaborate with students, and turn those ideas into action has been instrumental in fostering a more diverse and inclusive community."
Elevating and celebrating student life is a fundamental mission of the University, and the awards play a key role in providing an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of the students and staff who go the extra mile.
This year, a record-breaking 1,950 nominations were received across 16 categories.
