Best-Selling Book by Professor Kenneth Hamilton published in Mandarin

19 February 2024

A revised edition in Mandarin of Professor Kenneth Hamilton’s award-winning book, After the Golden Age: Romantic Pianism and Modern Performance, has been issued by Shanghai Music Publishing House.

The Chinese version of the book (黄金时代之后) was translated by Professor Jennifer Ku, formerly Head of the Piano Department at Xiamen University, and joins earlier translations into Italian and Hungarian.

After the Golden Age was originally published by Oxford University Press, and quickly became a Classical music best-seller.

Welcomed by Charles Rosen in the Times Literary Supplement as “full of wit and interest, and written with passion”, and by Bernard Holland in the New York Times as “a delightful book”, it was a Daily Telegraph Book of the Year in the UK, and a CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title in the US.

Professor Hamilton commented, “I’m genuinely thrilled by the appearance of the Chinese edition of After the Golden Age, expertly translated by Professor Ku, and handsomely produced by Shanghai Music Publishing House.

“There is a wealth of musical talent in China, and I hope that the book will be of value not only to the many gifted pianists in the country, but also to Chinese music-lovers in general."
