New Pro Chancellor

TV and radio presenter Jason Mohammad is taking up the ceremonial role of Pro Chancellor.

Pro Chancellors are Honorary Officers of the university and the roles are unremunerated. They act as advocates and ambassadors for the university, helping to raise our profile and advance our interests regionally, nationally, and internationally. They have ceremonial roles during graduation.

Jason Mohammad (PGDip 1997, Hon 2014) is one of the most recognisable journalists and sought-after hosts in the broadcast and events world. He is also a Cardiff University graduate and received an Honorary Fellowship in 2014.

Pat Younge, our Chair of Council, said: “I am delighted that Jason will be joining Cardiff University as a Pro Chancellor. A Cardiff alum, he's gone on to become one of the most respected broadcasters in Wales and on British media.

“He's also a Cardiffian through-and-through, from his pride in his working class roots in Ely through to his ongoing love affair with Cardiff City and founding the Jason Mohammad Academy at Cardiff and Vale college. He is a great addition to our team of Pro Chancellors and I'm looking forward to working with him.”

He started his career at BBC Wales as a news reader before moving into live tv sports and radio. He is best known for his role on BBC One’s live football scores Final Score and flagship football show Match of the Day and MOTD2. His other presenting work includes:

• Good Morning Sunday on BBC Radio 2
• some of the BBC’s biggest TV output including the Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Games, FA Cup finals, World Cup finals and the Six Nations
• co-presenting Crimewatch on BBC One
• his own show on BBC Radio Wales

Jason is a fluent Welsh speaker - appearing regularly on S4C and BBC Radio Cymru.

Jason has recently created his own media academy inspiring youngsters who want to work in the creative industries. He’s also a keen filmmaker having made TV documentaries on his faith in Mecca, his upbringing in Cardiff and historic architecture in Egypt.

The job he’s most proud of - he’s a dad of three and lives in Cardiff.
