Transport and Planning (MSc) retains Transport Planning Professional approval

23 January 2024

The Transport and Planning (MSc) programme at the School of Geography and Planning has retained approval by the Transport Planning Professional (TPP) professional standards committee.

The MSc Transport and Planning at Cardiff University has been approved for Transport Planning Professional (TPP) since 2009 and several alumni from the course have gone on to achieve professional recognition as Chartered Transport Planning Professionals (CTPP).

Retaining the TPP approval demonstrates the school’s commitment to equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills they need for a successful career in transport planning. Gaining an approved MSc means that graduates from the course can take the standard route to Professional Review.

The TPP qualification is jointly awarded by the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Transport Planning Society to recognise the high levels of skill and experience required by transport planners. Candidates must demonstrate their competence in a broad range of professional and technical transport planning skills.

Successful candidates can register as Chartered Transport Planning Professionals (CTPP), recognising their professional achievement against this distinguished industry benchmark.

Dr Dimitris Potoglou, programme leader for the course said “We are proud to be accredited by the TPP Professional Standards Committee as a Master’s course that meets the knowledge requirements for the Transport Planning Professional qualification. This is a significant recognition for our programme and our graduates.

“Many thanks to the Professional Standards Committee for their efforts and constructive approach in reviewing our programme and providing valuable recommendations. An excellent experience throughout the whole application process!”

The programme's commitment to integrating real-world strategic transport planning into the curriculum was commended by the panel and course will help to prepare students for the challenges they will face as transport planners.

Cat Goumal, Head of Education at CIHT said, “We are pleased that the MSc Transport and Planning has been re-approved and we look forward to seeing the impact that the graduates from this course will make in transport planning.”
