Cardiff Professor celebrated at international law awards

A Cardiff Professor of International Law & International Relations has been recognised for his outstanding research contributions at a global leadership awards ceremony.

Professor Edwin Egede was presented with the 2023 International Law Global Leadership Award by the African Society of International Law (AfSIL) at their annual conference in Addis Ababa. Ethiopia in October 2023. The AfSIL is a network of practitioners, scholars, technocrats, and students engaged with international law as it is practised, implemented, and forged in Africa. Professor Egede’s award celebrated his outstanding research contributions to the Governance of the Global Commons as it affects Africa.

The theme of this year’s conference was Africa and the Governance of the Global Commons and on the first day of the conference, Professor Egede chaired a panel and delivered an opening remark on "International Lawmaking Concerning the Global Commons" at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa.

Professor Egede, a co-director of the Cardiff University Centre for International Law and Multilateralism, said, "It was such a great honour and delight to receive the 2023 International Law Global Leadership Award from the African Society of International Law (AfSIL), the foremost International Law Society focused on issues related to Africa, the primary geographical region of focus in my research."
