A new master’s course, which will be led by the School of Modern Languages, has been announced for 2024.

Global Heritage is the first taught postgraduate degree to be taught by academics across the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences with the first cohort beginning their studies in September 2024.

The interdisciplinary course, which has been co-designed by academics across the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, aims to provide students with an understanding of the role of heritage in modern day life and will focus on transnational developments and the impact of globalisation on the sector.

The course will be led by the School of Modern Languages, and in addition to being taught by staff of the school, students will also be taught by members of staff from other academic schools across the arts, humanities, and social sciences’ disciplines at the university. These include staff from the School of History, Archaeology and Religion, the School of Journalism, Media and Culture and the School of Social Sciences.

Another exciting aspect of the course is that students will be given the chance to complete an optional 20-day placement. The placement partners currently include Amgueddfa Cymru|Museum Wales.

Professor David Clarke, Head of the School of Modern Languages and Programme Director for Global Heritage, said: “I’m delighted that Cardiff University has launched this exciting, interdisciplinary master’s programme, which will allow students to study Heritage from a global perspective, while also engaging with the vibrant Heritage sector here in Wales. The programme brings together colleagues from a number of academic schools in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, who will share their academic research and their practical expertise.”

Applications for this course are now live. For more information, visit our course page.
