Inspirational alumni shine at awards

6 October 2023

2023 30Ish Alumni Award winners announced

Three alumni from the School of History, Archaeology and Religion have been named winners at the second 30Ish Alumni Awards.

Will Moore (BA 2019, MTh 2021) and Jenny Mathiasson (MSc 2013) and Kloë Rumsey (MSc 2014) were among the recipients at a special ceremony hosted by Cardiff University’s new President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wendy Larner and featuring emcee Matt Barbet (BA 1997, PgDip 1999) at the University’s innovative sbarc | spark building on 5 October.

Eschewing the format of traditional ’30 Under 30’ lists, the awards are designed to recognise the change-makers, innovators, and rule-breakers among the Cardiff University alumni community under or over 30, who feel 30(ish).

Will Moore (BA Religious & Theological Studies 2019 and MTh Theology 2021) is a winner as an Equity Advocate for healthier understanding of masculinities in order to work towards gender justice. Challenging our understanding of theology and who we are, his book Boys Will Be Boys, and Other Myths: Unravelling Biblical Masculinities has captured media attention since hitting shelves in 2022.

Jenny Mathiasson (MSc Conservation Practice 2013) and Kloë Rumsey (MSc Conservation Practice 2014) were recognised in the Innovation category for The C Word, the Conservators’ Podcast. Now at series 13 (an amazing 110 episodes since 2017), The C Word is reaching audiences in 120 countries, as well as providing connection to the conservation community, something so valuable through the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, the innovators are not afraid to challenge the profession and examine issues that matter globally in their sector.

Will Moore was also awarded the Equity Advocatespecial recognition award.

23 Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences alumni featured among the glittering list of winners, highlighting the diversity of career paths pursued by Cardiff humanities graduates.

Congratulations to all the inspirational alumni recognised in this year’s 30Ish Alumni Awards list.
