Lessons for Wales and Catalonia to be considered at London event

20 April 2023

A public event at the government of Catalonia’s London office will hear from Robert Jones and Richard Wyn Jones, authors of the first ever academic book on The Welsh Criminal Justice System.

Cardiff University’s Wales Governance Centre and the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to the UK and Ireland have organised the event, which is part of the Catalonia House Conversation series, held by that nation’s delegation to further discussion on topics relevant to Catalonia.

The acclaimed book revealed the presence and implications of a systematic Jagged Edge between UK level and devolved responsibilities for criminal justice in Wales. This event will consider the lessons for both Wales and Catalonia, where the policies of central and autonomous government often overlap and intersect.

Mr Francesc Claret, Representative of the Government of Catalonia to the United Kingdom and Ireland, visited the Wales Governance Centre in January 2023, enjoying presentations on the Wales Governance Centre’s major research projects.

The Conversation will take place on May 17th at Catalonia House, 17 Fleet Street, London. It is open to the public who can register by sending an email to uk@gencat.cat.
