Update from Shannon Costello

14 April 2023

CUREMeDE PhD Student Shannon Costello is now halfway through her data collection period. She has been on site at hospitals observing the way that staff input vital signs into the software CareFlow Vitals on iPads. Participants in the study have been very welcoming and engaging throughout observations and interviews and Shannon would like to extend her gratitude to everyone who has been involved so far and informed the preliminary results.

Shannon’s research focuses on mobile technology installed with software that is used to record the vital signs of patients in Wales. She aims to understand how this technology affects the decision-making of clinicians, the working dynamics of the multi-disciplinary team, and how users were prepared for the implementation of this digital tool. She also expects to be able to report the benefits of the devices, alongside any problems that clinicians may have faced.

With four months left to go in this period, Shannon is looking forward to continuing data collection, recruiting more participants and eventually writing up her thesis.
