Professor Kenneth Hamilton, Head of the School of Music, introduces our upcoming Piano series.

"This Spring term, the concert season at the School of Music will be launched by a Piano Series of three exciting performances from guest artists.

"Welsh talent, Rachel Starritt will open the series with music in an improvisatory style, including classical, impressionistic, and jazz standards – prepare for some audience participation! Catherine Milledge and Roger Owens will offer some intriguing works from the Classical/Romantic repertoire. And last but by no means least, we welcome again Clare Hammond, who will play pieces from her latest album, along with an imaginative new work from one or our own faculty, Dr Litang Shao.

"University students and staff enjoy free attendance to all School of Music events throughout the semester, including our school ensembles’ end of term concerts. This year:

  • our Pop Collective, and our Western African Drumming Ensemble will collaborate in performance at Students’ Union
  • Cardiff University Symphony Orchestra will be directed in concert for the first time by our new conductor Rita Mikhailova in Llandaff Cathedral
  • our newly purchased, Javanese Gamelan percussion instrument will make its debut with the Nogo Abang ensemble
  • our Symphonic Winds will perform music they played at the National Concert Band Festival.

"We look forward to you joining us!"
