Celebrating our global network of Chinese language and culture

1 November 2022

At the end of September, tutors from Cardiff Confucius Institute joined forces with the Wales Central Library to celebrate ‘Confucius Institute Day’.

Confucius Institute Day is a time to share successes and achievements, and celebrate being part of a global network. In Cardiff, five of our Mandarin tutors put on an array of activities for local people including Chinese paper-cutting, calligraphy, ‘zhongguo jie’ or ‘knotting’, and making Chinese-style bookmarks. As well as handicrafts, attendees took part in ‘Chinese experience classes’ where they had great fun practising tongue twisters in Mandarin.

Participants were even able to take away their own homemade mementos of the day by painting their names in calligraphy on the Chinese bookmarks they had just made.

Confucius Institute Day is a day of celebration to promote Chinese language and culture. It is a chance for communities to engage with their local Confucius Institutes, and enhance understanding between China and the UK.
