Top 20 triumph for Cardiff law and politics

20 July 2022

Law and politics programmes at Cardiff University have been ranked in the top 20 of this year’s Complete University Guide.

Both disciplines have risen in the rankings for 2023 with law being placed at 20 and politics rising 19 places to 18.

The Complete University Guide ranks UK universities nationally and in 70 different subject areas, using a range of different measures including student experience and academic performance.

This excellent ranking news comes only weeks since the school celebrated success in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF) where law research was placed 15th in the UK and politics and international relations research scored the highest possible score of 4.0 for impact.

Head of politics and international relations, Professor Peter Sutch said of this year’s results, “It is always gratifying to see the hard work and success of colleagues and students recognised this way and this marks an important step in our evolution.”

Head of law, Dr Richard Caddell added, “This is very welcome recognition of our extensive efforts across the school to promote an excellent working and learning environment and student experience”.

Cardiff University also performed well, retaining its position as Wales’ top university.
