The School of Music has jumped 8 places in the 2023 Complete University Guide to be ranked in the top 10 music schools in the UK.

As well as achieving a subject ranking of 10th in the UK, the School of Music is ranked 9th in the UK for graduate prospects, highlighting the excellent employability outlook for graduates of the school.

The Guide ranks UK universities nationally and in 70 different subject areas, using a range of different measures including student experience and academic performance.

Cardiff University also performed well, retaining its position as Wales’ top university.

The news comes after the School of Music was recognised by the Government’s Research Excellence Framework 2021 as producing research of outstanding quality, with 90% of its research environment considered conducive to producing world-leading or internationally excellent research.

Professor Kenneth Hamilton, Head of the School of Music, said: “Ranking in the top 10 Music departments in the UK is a welcome recognition of the hard work of both staff and students in the school. It is even more notable given the difficulties the entire performing arts sector has faced over the last few years. We will strive to do even better next year!”
