New research to understand the logistics and supply chain challenges of rolling out a 5G network in Brazil

3 February 2022

5G microchip

5G is expected to be the fastest-deployed mobile communication technology in history. It is forecast to cover about 75 percent of the world’s population by 2027 (Ericsson Mobility Report, 2020).

Not only will the deployment be rapid, but the impact of 5G will be transformative. It is expected to add over $13 trillion in global economic value by 2035 and create more than 22 million jobs in the 5G global value chain alone (World Economic Forum, 2020).

Although the roll out of 5G has already started in many countries, in most countries the deployment has not yet started. The logistics and supply chain challenges of building and installing a 5G network are already identified as a major challenge, and thus, the PARC Institute has initiated a research project to better understand the challenges. The research is focused on Brazil, as the 5G roll out is scheduled to launch mid-2022 (RCR Wireless, 2021) and thus the time is right to understand the challenges, and help businesses and industries deploy this exciting new technology.
