In October 2021, Child Friendly Cardiff launched the ‘Winter of Wellbeing’ initiative, an extension of the Summer of Smiles festival that ran at Grange Pavilion through the summer of 2021.

The funding allows free activities and events to be hosted across communities within Cardiff, with the aim of putting smiles on the faces of children and young people from all backgrounds during such challenging times.

Nirushan Sudarsan, Youth Forum Director, Cardiff University Law and Politics undergraduate student, and a previous Community Gateway student Ambassador, worked with Community Gateway’s Ali Abdi and Corey Smith on a proposal which secured £4,000 of funding.

The funding will allow for free sessions to be delivered from the Grange Pavilion by external organisations and Cardiff University representatives with relevant expertise in areas of expertise including art, play, youth work and STEM activities. The activities will be developed with the Grange Pavilion Youth Forum, a registered Community Interest Company that has been running weekly activities from the Grange Pavilion with children and young people from Grangetown.  A Winter of Wellbeing timetable of activities is currently being developed to run over a 3-month period from 12th January to 31st March 2022.
