Cardiff University has been named Welsh University of the Year in The Times & The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022.

Cardiff also remains the top ranked university in Wales, claiming 35th position out of 135 institutions across the UK.

The announcement follows further league table success, which saw Cardiff climb five places and remain the number one university in Wales in The Complete University Guide 2022 released in August.

Professor Colin Riordan, Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff University, said: “Retaining the top spot in Wales in The Times & The Sunday Times Good University Guide on the back of an unprecedented year for the Higher Education sector is a significant achievement...”

“To be named Welsh University of the Year once again, a title we last held in 2018, is testament to the immense efforts of our academic and professional services staff. Their hard work and dedication has meant we’ve been able to continue to deliver for our students and to play our part in addressing the challenges the pandemic has brought on Wales and the world.”

“It is gratifying to be recognised in this way as we continue our efforts to be a credit to Wales and key to the economic and social success of the nation.”

The University has invested £50 million in its student support services, and will open the Centre for Student Life ready for the start of the 2021/22 academic year.

Alastair McCall, Editor of The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide, added: “Cardiff is one of the “go-to” destinations for students right now with applications booming...”

“Enhancements to the university experience through investments in projects like the new £50 million Centre for Student Life will only make it an even more attractive option going forward.”
