The School of Computer Science and Informatics is set to inspire school pupils to pursue a career in cyber security by hosting an important event alongside the CyberFirst Programme, of which Cardiff University is a proud supporter.

The School is delighted to be running its third CyberFirst Adventurers event, following a hugely successful experience when it ran in August 2020. The new online environment allows even more young people to join in and participate in activities.

During the one-day event taking place on 15th May 2021, young people aged between 11 and 14 will learn about code cracking and digital forensics. We will be hosting a range of activities from CyberFirst and there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and try new things.

CyberFirst is a programme of opportunities run by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to help young people aged 11 - 17 years explore their passion for tech by introducing them to the fast-paced world of cyber security.

Dr Yulia Cherdantseva, Lecturer at the School of Computer Science and Informatics said: "We are proud to support the CyberFirst programme. This May we will hold our third CyberFirst Adventurers event for 13 - 14 year-old school children, giving them the opportunity to experience different facets of computer science and cybersecurity. In 2020, we successfully transitioned from running a face-to-face event to remote delivery. This year we will continue delivering this exciting educational event for teenagers online which will allow even more participants from all over Wales to join the fun."

Cardiff University has been recognised by the UK Government as the first Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research in Wales.

The School of Computer Science and Informatics teaches and carries out research in the cyber security discipline, offering programmes such as BSc Computer Science with Security and Forensics and MSc Cybersecurity.
