Cardiff academics welcome Indian delegation.

The School recently hosted a delegation from India, as part of a visit organised by the UK Deputy High Commission in India and the Welsh Government.

Dr Li Yu and Dr Andrew Flynn from the School of Geography and Planning met with two Members of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, India.  Dr. Ashwath Narayan C. N represents the Malleswaram constituency, Bangalore and Arvind Bellad, represents Hubli-Dharwad West. Karnataka is experiencing challenges arising from rural and urban development. Key city-level challenges are sustainable master-planning and the effects of climate change, topics that are also crucial to the future sustainable development of Indian Cities.

The focus of the visit to the School was on planning for sustainability. The discussions covered innovative approaches to smart cities and city governance. Ideas were exchanged on water and environmental management that drew on research experiences in the UK, China and Indonesia. The School’s teaching programme on sustainability and eco-development was also explained.

There are currently 5 enrolled students from India studying at the School of Geography and Planning.
