Engineering team scoops second prize at prestigious competition

Winning team at Harbin Competition

Dr Ze Ji, Dr Hanlin Niu, and student Pietro Liguori, from the School of Engineering were part of the team which scooped the second prize in the International Marine Vehicle Design and Construction Invitational Contest 2019 and The 8th China Marine Vehicle Design and Construction Contest.

This is the largest contest in this area in China. There were more than 600 teams participating in the event, including teams from 13 international universities. Cardiff University and a number of other universities including Dundee, Bath, Essex, Strathclyde, and UCL, represented the UK. It is the first time that international universities have been invited to participate in the event.

School of Engineering lecturer, Dr Ze Ji was invited to lead a team of four students, which included Pietro Liguori from the School of Engineering along with a student from University College London and two students from Harbin Engineering University.  The team was supported by Dr Hanlin Niu from the ASTUTE team at Cardiff University.

After a 2 day contest at Harbin Engineering University the team was awarded second prize in this prestigious competition.

The theme of the competition was “Ocean, Innovation, Co-operation and Win-Win” and it is the first competition of its kind with the largest number of participants.
