New JOMEC building

Cardiff University has won a series of construction industry awards for its work on building and refurbishment projects.

The new School of Journalism, Media and Culture (JOMEC) building in Cardiff city centre secured two awards in the Education Building Wales awards – the coveted Project of the Year and Inspiring Learning Spaces.

The JOMEC project was also highly commended in the Pupil/Student Experience category.

In addition, the University won two awards in the Constructing Excellence Wales Awards and will now progress to the national awards in November 2019.

The awards were Client of the Year, relating to the University’s construction framework, and the Health, Safety and Wellbeing award with Knox and Wells for the Medicines Discovery Institute project.

Earlier this year, the University was highly commended for the facilities it created for the Dementia Research Institute in a major international competition for science buildings - the S-Lab Awards.

The S-Lab Awards, which started in 2012, recognise excellence in laboratory design, operation and management.
