Award for Tafwyl partnership

Cardiff University has won an Arts and Business Cymru Award for its partnership with community Welsh language festival Tafwyl.
The University beat off stiff competition to triumph in the Arts, Business and the Community category.
Tafwyl was established by the charity Menter Caerdydd in 2006 to celebrate the use of the Welsh language in Cardiff.
The Arts and Business Cymru Awards encourage and celebrate innovative partnerships between the private sector and the arts that benefit communities.
The partnership with Tafwyl was said to have demonstrated the University’s “commitment to engaging young people in the arts and with the language”.
Arts and Business Cymru added: “The support, in partnership with A&B Cymru and Cardiff and Vale College, created five new rock, pop and indie bands from Cardiff secondary schools.
“Workshops by leading musicians and choreographers were delivered in both English and Welsh-medium schools.
“Each band had the opportunity to perform at Tafwyl and the experience helped develop new music and Welsh language skills.”
In addition, the University had a marquee at Tafwyl to promote research and teaching in a fun and engaging way.
The University supports Welsh language and culture as part of its ‘civic mission’ and will have a major presence at this year’s National Eisteddfod, which is held in Llanrwst in Conwy county from 3-10 August.
